OUR STORY

Back in 2017 our family inherited what is now Mending Fences Farms as part of a fourth generation homestead with roots in the agricultural field.

In 2020 we started a non profit evangelistic outreach called Mended Heart Ministry that services underpriviledged communities across the Southeastern US. Our number one mission in everything that we undertake is to first and foremost bring the gospel of Jesus Christ to those in need of a Savior while at the same time provide resources they may not otherwise have access to. As our ministry grew and society and cultures changed we slowly watched the rich heritage of agriculture as the bounty God provided to sustain mankind disappear.

The Lord continued to speak to us about the impending need to utilize our own land and capability to support ourselves, as well as to provide a service for others. With the type of land and resources we possessed the best way for us to accomplish that goal was to transition to meat goats. Over the next year, we remained steadfast in the reconditioning of our land, preparation of our pastures and barns and procurement of our first breeder goats.

Finally, in late 2025, God brought  Mending Fences Farms to fruition, and we are now a fully operational meat goat farm .

Our mission is to sustain a viable future for ourselves and our children through the production of a superior product, preserve the Biblical origins of agriculture through education, and provide emergency food assistance in times of crisis.

MENDING FENCES FARMS IN A NUTSHELL

We are an actively running myotonic meat goat farm where all of our breeder goats are registered from top-notch bloodlines with the MGR. We start selling goats once weaned all the way up to meat market weight for slaughter, as well as for outstanding breeder lines to increase the quality of your herd.

In addition to goats for purchase, we provide emergency food assistance to individual families in crisis upon referral.

Donations are accepted for the retention of that cause and proceeds from every goat procured here on our farm has the potential to help sustain a family in need.

Apart from the production side, we possess a desire to preserve the Biblical heritage of agriculture in general. Therefore, we also offer scheduled visits in field trip format for families or groups who would like to learn more about farm operations and the Biblical significance of land management for a sustainable future.

WHY MYOTONIC?

The Myotonic or "Tennessee Fainting Goat" is an  American landrace breed named for its unique ability to "faint." This condition is actually known as myotonia congenita which causes the muscle cells of the goat to experience prolonged stiffening when startled. This is not a true faint, but a muscular contraction unrelated to the nervous system. In consequence, the contractions are more like an isometric exercise that results in muscular buildup throughout the body improving meat  composition.  There are those who breed Myotonics today specifically for the "fainting" trait as a novelty pet trend. However, because of the myotonic gene these goats are one of the highest quality meat breeds available on the market resulting in a superior meat-to-bone ratio that is higher than any other breed (17%), as well as they produce an exceptionally more tender and sweeter meat.  Here at Mending Fences Farms goats are selected based on the historical tradition of the breed that emphasizes the meat qualities, growth rate, conformation and reproductive efficiency, in addition to their recognition as an important genetic resource of being a distinctively American breed.

"And if you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all His commandments that I command you today, the LORD your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, if you obey the voice of the LORD your God. Blessed shall you be in the city, and blessed shall you be in the field. Blessed shall be the fruit of your womb and the fruit of your ground and the fruit of your cattle, and the increase of your herds and the young of your flock....Blessed shall you be when you come in, and blessed shall you be when you go out. The Lord will cause your enemies who rise against you to be defeated before you. They shall come out against you one way and flee before you seven ways. The LORD will command the blessing on you in your barns and in all that you undertake. And He will bless you in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.
The LORD will open to you His treasury, the heavens, to give the rain to your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands. and you shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow. And the LORD will make you the head and not the tail, and you shall only go up and not down, if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God...
